FL Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson Apologizes to Rush

It isn't just GOP representatives who have to bow and scrape before Rush. (Or as redstate gleefully remarked yesterday, get "taken behind the woodshed by Limbaugh, de-trousered and birched but good". (To which redstate creepily added. "I personally enjoyed it")

But it's not just republicans any longer apologizing for offending the real leader of the GOP. Now Democrats have gotten into the act. My own Congressman, Alan Grayson (D-FL):

"I’m sorry Limbaugh called for harsh sentences for drug addicts while he was a drug addict. I’m also sorry that he’s bent on seeing America fail. And I’m sorry that Limbaugh is one sorry excuse for a human being."

I feel real bad for the rethugs in Congress. Your base worships the Boss Hog of the GOP while the rest of America thinks he's a hypocritical, bigoted blowhard.

So if you are a rethug with a conscience, you have to hold your tongue and wince while he calls for America to fail, makes fun of Parkinson's disease or attacks minorities and women. And if someone asks you what you think of him, you have to dance like crazy. ("No, no no, he's not our leader, he's just... a god" "I think what he says is repugnant, but I just am not allowed to disagree with anything he says...please don't hurt me Rush")

Better to have America hate you than your base. But that is what happens when your base is made up of small-minded nuts.

Reasons why the Primary Democratic Fight is GREAT for our party!

The "liberal" media I keep hearing about, (which is overwhelmingly owned by conseravative corporations no less), is telling me that the Democratic Party is in real trouble. The RNC is apparently writing these talking points for them because the outlets I watch or read are very similar--except for Rush Limbaugh who just said that America would not vote for a woman and a black guy. (Great analysis, Rush).

Lucky for us, Rush is wrong. Survey USA just released polls in all 50 states of potential head to head matchups between John McCain and BOTH Hillary and Obama. The results: Both CANDIDATES cream McCain.

So how exactly is this a disaster?

The GOP factions, including the base of the party, can't stand John McCain. Even if they "hold their noses and vote for him", as expected, they will NOT be in full force like they were for their idiot messiah Mighty W. They will not knock on doors, they will not work phones, and they will not donate cash.

Cash--there's something else to talk about. Obama raised a record $55 MILLION for February! An all time high!!! He broke Kerry's previous record of $44 million, but as someone from DKOS correctly pointed out, that was after he cinched the nomination. Obama is still in a highly competitive race with another DEM. In other words, party supporters haven't even consolidated behind ONE candidate!! (Also, Obama raised more than 90% from donations of under 100 dollars!--NICE!). Hillary--not too shabby. $36 million.

McNasty? After Bush's mighty endorsement and after he has sealed the nomination---$12 mil. Yep, that's excitement.

Oh, and did I mention the record turnout for our primaries!?! In Virginia, for example, Obama received 619,000 votes--more than all of the GOP candidates COMBINED!! If that happens in a red state like Virginia, imagine the turnout in real swing states!

We have two great, historic candidates that Americans are excited about!! And this fight is great for us. Why?

1. They are staying in the news and will continue to stay in the news because the DEM competition is where the action is. The GOP race is over. McCain has to say nasty things to try to get anyone to pay attention to him.

2. The lengthy competition is also great because it is building the state parties GOTV mechanism in preparation for the general election. I am thrilled because Ohio and Pennsylvania play crucial roles, and the Hillary and Obama factions are building extensive networks and operations to win the primaries in those states--which will be ready to go come November!

3. Since the GOP does not know who will be our candidate, they don't know where to fight. In Survey USA, they both beat McCain, but they both BREAK OFF different swing states. For example, Hillary wins Florida handily, but Obama takes Virginia. This also has the added bonus of #4.

4. Both candidates are criss-crossing the nation hitting McCain. Ask anyone in a fight, 2 on 1 is tough. As long as Barack and Hillary can focus on themselves and McCain, and NOT bash each other, either one will be ready to claim the mantle and win victory in November.


SO we have our candidates getting all of the attention, building extensive operations in every state, each getting record fund-raising and record voter turnout (many who are voting for the first time!), and each criss-crossing the country taking swipes at a weakened McCain. Oh yeah, and both are kicking the crap out of him in head to head match-ups.

So, what's the disaster I've been hearing about??

Our Commander in Chief does NOT tolerate anyone smearing the military. Say what you will about his lack of intelligence, character, courage, or common sense--he will stick up for the soldier if he feels you are attacked. Check this out:

At a White House news conference earlier Thursday, Mr. Bush denounced the ad as "disgusting" and said he was disappointed that more Democrats did not condemn it.

"I felt like the ad was an attack not only on Gen. Petraeus but on the U.S. military, and I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democrat party spoke out strongly against that ad," he said.

Mr. Bush said that led him to conclude that "most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group like MoveOn.org, or more afraid of irritating them, then they are of irritating the United States military!

OUCH!! Take THAT, Bitches!!

Perino said: "The President believes that if you are serving in the military that you have the rights that every American has which is you're free to express yourself in any way that you want to. And there are some that oppose the war, and that's okay."

Pressed specifically about Rush's "phony soldiers" phrase, she added: "It's not what the President would have used, no."

DAMN!! Take THAT, RUSH! That wasn't a cyst on your ass that got you out of the draft, my friend. THAT was Bush's BOOT in your ass!!

The gloves are OFF my friends!

Our Commander in Chief, fighting and standing up for the troops!--well, not literally fighting unless it's just playing dress-up on an aircraft carrier.

And not really standing up since he doesn't support body armor, va benefits, or troop rest...or changing failed strategies...

And actually, it's okay to smear some veterans, as long as they are "running for office" --as Democrats--or don't support the war--or ....

Aw hell. I feel sorry for the spinmeisters. They got their work cut out for this one.

Where's the Outrage? Rush calls Active Duty Soldiers "PHONY"

Senator Coryn of Texas was outraged that MoveOn "smeared" a General by calling him a name. (General Betray Us). When an alternate resolution was introduced that condemned the Swift Boat lie smearing John Kerry--and the GOP commercial showing triple-amputee Max Cleland morphing into Saddam and Osama---the good Senator explained that it was OK because they were running for political office.

Smearing war heroes are OK--as long as they decide to run for office. True Story.

OK Senator. Let's say I accept your typical flawed logic. Now explain why you aren't condemning Rush Limbaugh. On his radio show, he just called those soldiers who don't support the war "PHONY SOLDIERS".

Since the majority of soldiers DON'T support the current fiasco, Rush is calling the majority of our troops phony. And guess what--they aren't running for office.

Representative (and Senate candidate) Mark Udall is introducing a resolution this Monday to condemn Rush Limbaugh's obscene attack on "the integrity and patriotism" of those men and women serving honorably in Iraq.

If the GOP is serious that they don't stand for any smear attacks on our troops, then I will support this resolution in the strongest terms as they did the MoveOn resolution.

They won't, of course. All prominent Rs have appeared on Rush Limbaugh, including Bush and Cheney. They can't disassociate him the way the Dems can MoveOn.

Also, the GOP has voted against body armor, VA benefits, and even troop rest (the DAY before the voted to condemn a NY Times ad). They also are not above smearing active duty soldiers who aren't GOP--from war heroes like Cleland to Generals like Casey and Abizaid.

But still, I can't wait to see how they try to tap dance around this one.

IMUS FIRED, so what about Raggedy Ann and Limbaugh??

Imus lashed out at the Rutgers female basketball team by calling them a racial and sexist slur. Breaking news is that he has been fired by MSNBC for his behavior (And this Thursday morning by NBC). This is big news because Imus is the center of a MULTIMILLION dollar business. And yet the big networks fired him and all major advertisers pulled out--making Rudy Guiliani look like a dork for accepting his apology. (You heard right, Rudy Guiliani actually said he "accepted" his apology and said he would appear on his show in the future--I guess he got over being called a "nappy-headed ho").

Colossal moron Bush didn't condemn the remarks, just congratulated Imus for apologizing. (Heck of a job, Imee). Romney at least said he would tell Imus how bad the remarks are IF he went back on the show... not seeing the irony of last month's embrace of Ann Coulter.

Which brings me to the crux of my diary...

If what Imus did was SO offensive, then how the hell can anyone justify the presence on our TVs, newspaper columns, and radio waves of hatemongers Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh?

Rush Limbaugh has made fun of blacks, hispanics, immigrants, women, and more recently, the handicapped. Ann Coulter completed the circle by making repulsive comments about arabs, asians, native americans and gays. And unlike Imus, neither was ever forced to apologize for their hateful remarks. Neither was ever disciplined. Quite the contrary.

Both receive million dollar royalties and invitations to speak at conservative forums and even the White House.

The liberal side has no one this hateful. The right has tried to make Michael Moore our demon, but Michael Moore hardly engages in hate speech (what ethnic group has he attacked? his movie thanked the troops for their sacrifice and made Bush look like the unprepared idiot he his---is this the same as telling an African-American to "take the bone" out of his nose (Limbaugh) or saying asians, particularly North Koreans, should be "nuked for fun" (Ann)?)

Both of these hateful bigots don't command the audience or money that IMUS does, but he didn't have the one thing he needed -- conservative cover.

If he is smart, he will take to the airways next week on his new show at FOX NEWS network screaming racist rhetoric but this time coupling it with swipes at the Democratic Congress. He will be back on top in no time, and won't ever again have to face Al Sharpton.
