Why We Need a Supermajority in the Senate

It's not the evil that the GOP makes you believe. It only ensures that Barack Obama can actually implement his agenda. Tax cut for the middle class as opposed to the wealthy, commonsense healthcare, S-CHIP, etc.

The GOP can fillibuster any of this. Just this year, they initiated 94 fillibusters. All a supermajority does is ensure the GOP can't derail the agenda that Obama has laid out--which is why America has overwhelmingly supported him to begin with.

  1. The thing that makes us worry about this is that a lot of Democrats support things like the Fairness Doctrine and other pieces of legislation that seem to step on personal liberties. Having a republican majority in house and/or senate helps balance that. I know Obama is not for the Fairness Doctrine, but that doesn't mean he won't try to pass other things like that.

  2. I am worried because his agenda can be stopped by one Senator.

On the other hand, I think Obama will truly try to reach out, unlike Bush did. Even if Obama did get 60 senators, I strongly believe that he would work with the GOP to make legislation bi=partisan. If it isn't bi-partisan, it will not last or be very effective.

    Thanks for intelligent posts.
