So we had a GOP lawmaker a few days ago who tried to lecture a doctor during another anti-abortion fight right before he announced that he believed a woman's stomach was connected to her vagina. (And then proceeded to pass his anti-abortion bill).
Now we have another GOP lawmaker, tax cheat, and Cliven Bundy supporter Michele Fiore (R). If she sounds familiar, it's because just last week she suggested "hot, little girls" on college campuses have firearms or you like rape.
But this week the GOP has collectively decided to show their ignorance of biology, so Fiore contributed by proposing a bill that would let people use drugs without the approval of the FDA. (She thinks the government is holding out on us.) She made her point by literally arguing one of the most ignorant myths out there:
If you have cancer, which I believe is a fungus, and we can put a pic line into your body and we’re flushing with, say, salt water, sodium cardonate [sic-it's "bicarbonate"] through that line and flushing out the fungus. These are some procedures that are not FDA-approved in America that are very inexpensive, cost-effective.
Flushing yourself with baking soda because cancer is a fungus is listed as one of the top myths according to the UK's cancer research center.
As always, I can laugh these proud ignoramuses of basic science and medicine off: but they are the ones that apathetic people are putting in charge of our healthcare. That's why you have 24 waiting abortion periods (like one coming to Florida), forced vaginal penetration ultrasounds and other spiteful measures that have little to do with medicine and more to do with spiteful "punishment" for not following a medieval ideology. Even my own state representative has an idea of fining doctors 5 million dollars if they ask about guns in the home.
I only wonder what subject the GOP will be discussing next week...
I know, Jason is my rep as well :(
ReplyDeleteHand me a leech, willya?
ReplyDeleteThat is not a suitable example of medical superstion. Those creepy little leeches are still used for very valid reasons in modern medicine. For example, they can be essential in skin grafting procedures. Let us not combat medical ignorance with more of it!
DeleteThank You Mr. Wizard
DeleteYou cannot have a leech before you get bled. Somebody call the barber.
DeleteHere is another idiot that inadvertently got elected to congress!! It's great; keep up the good work so the public will vote in another Independent or Democrat in 2016!!
DeleteCorrect your correction: it's sodium bicarbonate, not biocarbonate. Bi, not bio.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably going to be lost on you, but "i" and "o" are adjacent keys on a keyboard, and it is often easy to strike two keys simultaneously - I know because I do it frequently. Not everybody is an expert keyboardist and hardly everybody checks their keystrokes before posting something. You might want to consider rational possibilities before tearing into somebody over any obvious typo.
DeleteTouchy, touchy, ... .
DeleteTouchy, touchy, ... .
DeleteMarc: Yes, it was an obvious typo, and all Mercury Redbone did was simply suggest that it be corrected, which seems especially appropriate when it was made in a correction of another mistake, and yet you characterize that as "tearing into somebody"? That seems like a very paranoid response. As to how easy it is to strike two keys simultaneously and have both letters print, I'll let everyone else decide that based on their own experiences. And you don't have to be an expert "keyboardist" (a term that I've only ever heard applied to a musician, not a typist) to notice when your spell checker (including the one operating on this blog) underlines "biocarbonate" as a misspelled word.
DeleteNo Pun intended "What a BOOB!
ReplyDeleteThey are probably fake, just like her pretended knowledge of science and biology. Big boobs, small brain. Who knew?
DeleteI would hope they would put all this stupid stuff aside and get back to BENGAZZI
ReplyDeleteDang, I second that emoticon !!! :)
DeleteWhat was her last grade in school? I'm assuming that's a gun on her hip, but what are those other objects on her belt?
ReplyDeleteAmmunition clips - spring loaded devices that hold bullets.
DeleteWhat a fucking idiot!
ReplyDeleteThe REAL fucking idiots are the voters who put this fucking idiot into public office!
DeleteWhat "Healthcare" company is Michele Fiore CEO of? Her legislative office secretary does not know, nor is it specifically stated on any of her "official" websites. And she's been in this field for over 20yrs? So what's her cred? Inquiring minds NEED TO KNOW
ReplyDeleteAnother story about her tax troubles states that she owns Always There Personal Care of Nevada (based in Las Vegas). Best I can tell from googling the business is that it offers in-home sitters for the elderly. No medical care, just sitters. Strangely, though my search was not exhaustive, I cannot find one customer review of the business.
DeleteI am a Democrat who has read the book by the Oncologist, Dr. Simoncini. He has apparently had great success in treating his patients with this method. I embrace a more natural plan. It hasn't the side effects of Chemotherapy and Radiation, etc. It is widely accepted that cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment...but that it thrives on sugar and acidic environments. Dr. Simoncini has been quite successful at curing the condition. I am sorry that people are so uptight about an alternative approach. If I find myself in that quandary...I will definitely try this Dr.'s methods. It makes a lot of sense to me. In my many years, alternative medicine has worked well for me. It is not a bad thing!
ReplyDeletebe sure you have your affairs in order
DeleteI'm totally with you! Sheeple had been taken for the ride of their life, straight to the slaughterhouse, believeing the so called "science". There were times "science" thaught us the Earth was flat. In a couple of hundred of years our descendants will be laughing about our modern science at the best, or curse us for leaving them a decaying world, filled with toxic chemicals, gmo, & the disease as the result. Wake up sheeple! We're being sprayed from the skies like roaches by chemtrails. When was the last time you'd seen a perfectly blue sky? Where do you think so much cancer is coming from? If you want science do you own research, don't take someone's else word for it. I use alternative medicine my whole life, it's working better than any doctor!
Delete"Dr." Simoncini uses the "theory" that cancer is cause by candida fungus. Many hacks have claimed that many or most diseases are caused by candida fungus. Those theories have been thoroughly debunked. Simoncini lost his license to practice medicine in Italy in 2003. In 2006 he was convicted of manslaughter (3 years in prison) for "treating" people using his methods. He and his ilk are a dangerous joke.
DeleteAnonymous, how do you do your own research? Do you have you own lab? Do have advanced degrees in any sciences or in medicine? Do you get published in peer-reviewed journals? What alternative medicine do you use? You can't prove a negative. Last week I took a shit, but I did not win the lottery. I thought sure that my method of taking a shit would win me the lottery! Are you talking about homeopathy? It's a joke. Enlighten us.
DeleteBarry, research is easy! Just take the top three Google results that agree with the conclusion one wants to make and...voila! INSTANT SCIENCE!

ReplyDeleteWhile cancer is not a fungus...I agree, based on in-depth research, that cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment. Therefore, adding baking soda to your diet, ie, in sauces and meals can make a definite difference...as a preventative and limit its spread. That said, it would be wise to check your ph balance, as you need a balanced ph re the ability to digest your food. Chemo will never provide a cure, and it kills your immune system and your body's ability to recover from any illness..in addition to other nasty side effects. Chemo has never cured anyone, and radiation can result in secondary tumor formation. An organic diet, low in sugar and fat (cancer cells remain in fatty tissue), cooking fresh foods, limiting your iron intake (cancer can thrive on sugar and iron), and, daily, singular, vitamins and supplements can, also, help. I would never, never, if I was diagnosed, submit to chemo or radiation therapy!
DeleteI hate to break it to you, but no external factor can cause such changes to your body's pH balance. Our bodies natural homeostasis system keeps bodily and blood pH levels at very precise, specific levels. Any external factor that causes changes is immediately countered by the release of buffers and other substances. Normal body and blood pH is 7.35 to 7.45 and any deviation from that range is immediately corrected. Blood that falls out of this range results in dangerous conditions of either acidosis or alkalosis, which are MEDICAL EMERGENCIES. Both can and will wreak havoc on your body if not treated. When someone supposedly proves they have altered their body's pH, chances are they have tested their saliva or their urine, both of which have DIFFERENT normal pH levels than the body and blood has, and therefor not indicative of manipulating body pH. I suggest you refrain from making idiotic and scientifically unfounded statements regarding these bogus cures. Your not a medical doctor, so don't act like you know what your talking about. I sincerely hope you never get cancer, cause chances are you WILL DIE because of your refusal to get PROVEN, EFFECTIVE, and PROPER Medical Treatment.
DeleteDid she go to same science, health and vetting classed as Michelle Bachmann? Maybe they need to team up to "improve" consumer health information!
ReplyDeleteJust another example of a stupid neo-con.....what a fucking idiot. Looks like a slut.
ReplyDeleteSimoncini claims that cancer is “simply” an infection (il cancro è un fungo) caused by Candida albicans, an opportunistic fungus. He claims that this intruder causes formation of cysts and an uncontrolled cell division in several organs, such as the liver and lungs. To eliminate fungal colonies, he administers sodium bicarbonate by intravenous infusion, by mouth, or even with intra-arterial catheters close to the tumor site. Simoncini claims that the tumors will become smaller and subsequently disappear completely in half of patients thus treated. He does not give any proof for this and has never published any data in a scientific journal. He also claims that the treatment is not dangerous, because sodium bicarbonate is also used in standard medical procedures. He fails to mention that this treatment is applied only in patients with definite disturbances of water and mineral metabolism and under meticulous clinical supervision. The highly concentrated solutions that he administers within a short period can disturb the mineral balance in the body and lead to serious and even fatal complications.
ReplyDeleteCan you spell bimbo? Sure, I knew you could!
ReplyDeleteAll my friends want to see your rack, Michele. But I've got no interest now that I've seen you're nuts.
ReplyDeleteHow much *more* material can this woman give you to snicker about (as was I) before you can avoid descending to sexist slurs? Idiocy is genderless.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe people actually elect boobs like that.
