Jobs? Economy? NO! GOP Candidates Only Focus on AZ Immigration Law

From the Miami Herald:
More than 1 million people in Florida are out of work. The oil spill is wreaking environmental and economic havoc. The state is one hurricane away from catastrophe.

But anyone listening to Republican gubernatorial candidates Rick Scott and Bill McCollum would think that one of the most pressing concerns in this non-border state is illegal immigrants scaling palm trees and jumping over hibiscus bushes.

The article gives the numbers and shows how illegal immigration has dropped by hundreds of thousands here in Florida. This is not as a result of any fence or strong immigration policy, but mostly because there is little point in sneaking over here since we have no jobs. This is a factor you might think would give McCollum and Scott more to talk about: Neither one has a plan for the economy, how will stop our 6 billion deficit, or ideas for job creation.

Arizona's law is misguided, but at the very least they can point to problems of Mexican cartels smuggling drugs into the US--which, by the way, is not a primary issue here in Florida since they tend to use the border states. Florida doesn't even have a large Mexican population. Primarily, Florida's hispanics are overwhelmingly Cuban, who become legal if they make it here, and Puerto Ricans-who happen to be US citizens. Even Haitians have an easy time applying for temporary legal status given the earthquake. In fact, the majority of immigrants here are South Americans who have overstayed their visas.

Can we can the "scary brown people" meme and focus on the real issues affecting Florida?

McCollum wants to turn Florida into Arizona

AZ Anti-Mexican Law:

$90 million lost in tourism in AZ already...

Not one illegal stopped...

In addition to the "Breathing while Mexican" law, they banned all ethnic studies in the schools, and are on their way to passing a law banning teachers with accents.

THIS is what you get when teabaggers run a state.

McCollum was against the idea of bringing AZ wingnuttery here, as was Rubio, until Teabag candidate Rick Scott said he was for it. Now McCollum and Rubio want a carbon copy of the awful AZ immigration law here in Florida.

If Sink and Rubio's opponents don't know how to win with this, they deserve to lose.

This state has a large hispanic population that doesn't take kindly to cops demanding their papers. The campaign ad for this writes itself.

It is bad economically, morally, and doesn't do a damn thing to stop illegal immigration. It is a colossal fail in every way.

But it is the type of law that will pass if we elect a right-wing governor, because we already have a right-wing state legislature thanks to colossal gerrymandering.

If McCollum's Rent-a-Boy scandal wasn't enough to vote for the alternative, hopefully this will.

Sink Gaining On McCollum

McCollum's lawsuit to stop healthcare in Florida has not worked out so well.

Alex Sink is essentially tied with him, despite her god-awful, unfocused and meek campaign. McCollum hit dozens of press conferences after healthcare reform passed proudly saying he would sue to stop it. Interesting thing...he never spent one second addressing exactly what HE would do to help the 4 million uninsured in Florida if he should be successful.

He made some ignorant comment about how he would "like" to help them, and then moved on.

Alex should be smacking him around like a ragdoll and remind him of being the perpetual loser he is....but I guess she is counting on him acting like a Democrat: take a sure thing and implode.

Teacher Forces 5-Yr Old Disabled Boy to Be TAUNTED!!

WORST TEACHER IN THE WORLD: Wendy Portillo, a teacher in Port St. Lucie, FL, who forced Alex, age 5, to stand in front of his classroom and had EACH CLASSMATE tell him what they didn't like about him.

Alex has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. The kids called him "disgusting", "annoying", and so on.

He lost by a vote of 14 to 2 and was kicked out of the classroom.

This trauma has led the kid to be inconsolable, and he told his mom several times that he "wasn't special".

It gets worse...

The goddamned conservative rethuglicans who have a stranglehold on our state attorney's office said THIS DIDN'T CONSTITUTE EMOTIONAL ABUSE! They will not investigate.

WORST ATTORNEY GENERAL IN THE WORLD: Bill McCollum

Write your local paper and call the TV stations. This type of outrage is unacceptable, even for Florida.
