Ayn Rand was a Welfare Queen!

This is rich!

An interview with Evva Pryror, a social worker and consultant to Miss Rand's law firm of Ernst, Cane, Gitlin and Winick verified that on Miss Rand's behalf she secured Rand's Social Security and Medicare payments which Ayn received under the name of Ann O'Connor (husband Frank O'Connor).

As Pryor said, "Doctors cost a lot more money than books earn and she could be totally wiped out" without the aid of these two government programs. Ayn took the bail out even though Ayn "despised government interference and felt that people should and could live independently... She didn't feel that an individual should take help."

But alas she did and said it was wrong for everyone else to do so.

Many teabaggers are simultaneous government parasites...it seems their icon was as well.

Doctors Thrown in Jail for Asking about Guns?

Welcome to Post 2 of My Stupid State:

Let me begin by saying JASON BRODEUR, R-Sanford, (yes, that Sanford) is a FREAKING idiot.

So this week, on the heels of the AZ massacre...my new freshman state Rep. from my own Seminole County no less, wants the government to tell the doctors what they can and cannot say in their own office.

Mr. Brodeur is telling people that gun ownership information could be recorded and collected by the federal government and insurance companies as part of the federal health care law. Which, according to Politifact,is complete and utter Bulls____. So he came up with a great idea that only a teabagger who "loves the Constitution" would understand:

Scott Maxwell:

Specifically, he wants to criminalize questions about guns.

Right now, many pediatricians ask questions of parents to make sure their kids are safe.

"Do you have a pool? Is it fenced in?"

"Do you have any dangerous chemicals in the house? Are they locked up?"

"Do you have a handgun? Is it secure?"

Brodeur wants to make asking the last question a crime.

Any doctor who dares to ask it could be thrown in prison for five years and fined ... up to $5 million.

To put that in perspective, murdering someone in this state carries a fine of up to $15,000.

Yes. My new idiot representative thinks its necessary because the doctor could compile a list and give the information to the state.

Even though that has never happened before.

Even though it would violate the privacy oath and the doctor would lose his license.

Even though you could just decline to answer

Even though you could just get a f*&^ing new doctor

A pediatrician who dares to ask a parent if they keep guns safely stored in their house would be jailed and fined. Free speech be damned. This is my stupid state, beeyotch.

But that is only the beginning.

There are two other bills now pending for looser gun laws, as I suppose we Floridians all agree is the number one pressing problem in this state.

Not the sky-high 12% unemployment, not being the leader in the nation in foreclosures, no no.

It's the fact that gun owners need to wear their AK-47s and Mac-10s on the outside of their clothing... ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES. Yes, as I discussed in stupid state Part 1...that is really one of the bills pending, along with another one that forbids local governments from regulating firearms.

So January seems to be gun nut month. The gun lobby owns Tallahassee, and they have approved a gun promotion measure at the rate of one per year for the past decade. This, however, will be a banner year with no opposition.

I am cringing at next month, which will probalby be abortion month: Scott has promised to this time go forward with the forced rape bill that Crist vetoed. Shred privacy month and anti-brown people month will probably be close behind. (Scott wanted a special session to introduce the AZ law here.. super idea in a state dependent on tourism). I would suggest there would be a super-wealthy tax break month-but that apparently will be ongoing.

Stay tuned, we are in for a bumpy ride.

Florida Tries To Become the Wild West

Welcome to Post 1 of My Stupid State:

With wingnuts in full control of the state legislature and the governor's office... expect more nutty legislation like this:

Legislators have filed three separate bills, one that would restrict local governments from regulating firearms, another to stop doctors from even asking patients about them and a third to grant licensed gun owners the right to wear firearms outside their clothing — including on college campuses.

Soooo...students strapping Mac-10s and Glocks to thier backpacks. Nope, can't see anything happening there.

Rick Scott First Week Kills 48,000 Jobs

Never again can a teabagger complain about a Democratic bill being a "job-killer". Our teabagger/criminal-in-chief, Rick Scott, just killed high-speed rail.

The Florida Department of Transportation told a key Senate committee that building the line would generate more than 48,000 new jobs.

And that's just with the initial construction.

Once the line was up and running, it would have been tens of thousands more in the new business communities that would have inevitably sprung up from the stations. Not to mention the opportunies created for the citizens of Tampa and Orlando--who could feasibily now work live in one city but work in the other because of the 44 minute ride.

OH.. and the federal government was offering to pay 90 percent of the planned cost!

What is the alternative, by the way, to the I-4 parking lot??

It will cost half of that just to build an extra lane on I-4 from Tampa to the midway point in Lakeland. And if we do that, NO ONE is going to contribute!!

The governor has expressed concerns about putting taxpayers on the hook if the project were to go over budget, but FDOT officials have repeatedly said it would be contractors, not taxpayers, who would have to come up with the money.

This is called WIN WIN WIN WIN.

And it is also called DEAD DEAD DEAD DEAD.

Senator Nelson said today that Rick Scott told him that he would not support the rail project unless Florida didn't contribute a penny. Sorry folks, that isn't going to happen. You can't get something for nothing--something a teabagger should understand.

Even though in this case you are going to get 90% for nothing!!

I would bet that we could have easily gotten private industry to pick up the remainder. But the problem is that the state DOT, who depend on the governor for funding, aren't going after the private investors because they know the governor wants this to fail.

WHY? TWO WORDS: President Obama. This is a project that came from his stimulus program. It is a program that has worked, but the teabaggers hate to no end. (After all, they fight for the upperclass welfare, and since this only benefits them but not the wealthy, the tea-sheeple are being told to oppose.)

It is the teabaggers that Rick Scott feels he must answer to...and when teabaggers get their way, we all lose.

If the Democrats in this state had an ounce of political savvy, they would have huge billboards in this state that would count the number of jobs added until we get to the 700,000 Rick Scott promised to add. And they would start by rolling it back to
(negative)-48,000. This will be the first of many, unfortunately.

But at least someone would be keeping count.

Teabaggers Get Their Wish. Madman Shoots Congresswoman.

After a year of teabagger candidates like Sharon Angle calling for "2nd amendment remedies", or another calling for armed revolution, or yet another politician/Fox News darling calling for violent overthrow, or Rep. King... you know what, just google this. There are too many instances for me to link.

Sarah Palin LITERALLY targeting Giffords

Violent imagery such as painting a rifle scope bull's eye to "take down" Congresspeople you don't like (which Sarah took down all of the sudden) or calling for violent overthrow to a legion of nonthinking right-wing fanatics IS sort of like giving gas and a match to an arsonist and then saying you had nothing to do with it.

The Congresswoman's very own father said she was targeted by the teabaggers, and her office was vandalized by these nuts, and she and her family suffered from violent threats for quite some time.

I am happy she is still alive and hope this will make some in the GOP wakeup to the fanatics in their ranks. Maybe, just maybe, they might tone down the hate speech.

Maybe I expect too much.

That Didn't Take Long--Rick Scott Scandal First Day

Already? Guess so. My Stupid State begins...

It only took a week for Scott to show his shady side, after campaign workers complained that they were paid for their services in gift cards, rather than the hard coin of the realm:

Mark Don Givens told Florida's WTSP News that he was expecting a paycheck after he made phone calls and knocked on doors for the Scott campaign, which made jobs a top issue in the election. Givens said he and other workers were upset after they were told by the campaign that they could not offer them a paycheck and given American Express gift cards instead.

"This would violate both tax laws and labor laws," Melanie Sloan, the Executive Director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) told TPMmuckraker in an email. "It looks like the newly elected AG will be investigating the newly elected governor."
